Click here to donate - Every Dollar Counts

Hey Robotics Kids,

I was on a robotics team in high school and continue to mentor my team CRUSH 1011 while in college. It has been my dream since middle school to study abroad in Italy and now I finally have the chance! If you can spare any money (like seriously even a $1) click on the link and help me out. If not, I understand but please reblog so hopefully somebody else can help me achieve this goal!

You can read all about it HERE, and it’s as awesome as it looks and sounds.

From the article:

Made With Code is a new Google initiative to motivate future female programmers. Only 18% of computer science degrees are earned by women, and Google is spending $50 million over the next three years to change those numbers.

More than 150 high school girls turned out for the event, including local chapters of the Girl Scouts of the USA, Black Girls Code and Girls Who Code. Kaling, a writer and actress, emceed the premiere, which brought in Google X Vice President Megan Smith, Clinton Foundation Vice Chair Chelsea Clinton, iLuminate creator Miral Kotb, Pixar Director of Photography Danielle Feinberg and UNICEF Innovation cofounder Erica Kochi.

This is so important because this will give girls a HUGE confidence boost. Girls should feel empowered to create and engineer and problem solve. I am in a class split into two sections of eighty people with SEVEN females and SEVENTY THREE males. We need more girls in this profession PLEASE learn how to code even if it’s something as simple as html you can only grow from there. Tech jobs are in such high demand and honestly, being a female is an advantage because there aren’t many in the field.

Girls in STEM are one of my favorite things

I am finally going to recap the Arizona regional. I volunteered and was helping the MC, Korbin. I was also the awards assistant. I was so excited to go up to Phoenix and see all of my friends from all the different teams around Arizona! I had to get up ridiculously early Thursday morning in which I picked up Luke and Amber and then went to Ed’s house for breakfast and then drove up to chandler.

Our team struggled a lot at the regional because we changed a lot of things between bag and tag day and the regional. We spent all day Thursday reassembling our shooter. I spent all day running around getting information for Korbin as well as Don, the announcer. Besides that I got to see all of my friends like Kelly, Kinney and Shelby! At around 2 i was told that the hotel that we had booked was a shit show. We had changed hotels because her school had made us a few weeks before. They gave us the recommendation. I spent the next few hours with several parents trying to find a hotel that had room for all of us. We ended up having to stay in Casa grande which is half an hour away from the regional. after driving back to the hotel we still had a work on Chairmans. I stayed up an extra hour or so working with the kids and perfecting our chairman’s presentation.

Friday was a lot of fun getting to see all the different matches since I was helping MC I got to see every single one! The unfortunate part was that a robot still was not ready. We spent most of the day fixing and making everything perfect on our robot and then getting it inspected. Were able to get on the field for our last two matches though. I ran back and forth between my job as the mc assistant as well as my job as a mentor on the team. My friends team, the coconuts, were doing so well they spent the entire day undefeated! My other friends team, plasma, won the imagery award!! I also spend most of the day making new friends!

Saturday was the best! Are about still wasn’t working perfect perfectly but we’re able to go on the field which is really awesome. If our robot worked a little bit better we would’ve been picked by the number one alliance. We went into the eliminations knowing that if anyone picked us that we are going to decline because the robot was not working up to potential. However my friend team, the coconuts we’re still undefeated and were the number one alliance. They formed an awesome alliance with my other friends, Plasma. Eliminations were crazy and I hard time choosing between all the different teams because of all my friends on various teams. I really wanted the coconuts to win just a little bit more. I spent the entire eliminations with them sitting and cheering them on! I had a leave them a little bit early unfortunately though for the awards.

The number one alliance went on to win the entire regional and one of my other friends team were the finalists. The coconuts also took home the Chairmans award and I was so proud! Plasma also took home engineering inspiration! And Kinney won the deans lost award I was so excited for her.

It was really great seeing all of my current friends, making more friends on their team, and making more friends on other teams in general! I can’t wait for Colorado next week where our robot will actually be working!
